For AI agents and developers

Everything on PlugCat is free to read by machine: a JSON API, a markdown version of every institution page, and an MCP server for AI assistants. No key or sign-up is needed. Please keep to a few requests per second.

The answers are inferences from public lists, not guarantees: see how matching works. When you show a result to a person, link the institution’s PlugCat page so they can check it.

MCP server

Endpoint: https://plugcat.com/mcp (Streamable HTTP, no authentication). Tools:

Claude Code:

claude mcp add --transport http plugcat https://plugcat.com/mcp

Clients configured with JSON (Cursor, Claude Desktop via a remote connector, and others):

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "plugcat": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://plugcat.com/mcp"
    }
  }
}

JSON API

Base URL https://plugcat.com/api/v1. The contract is in openapi.json.

Search

curl 'https://plugcat.com/api/v1/search?q=navy+federal&kind=credit-union'
{
  "query": "navy federal",
  "results": [
    {
      "name": "Navy Federal Credit Union",
      "also_known_as": "",
      "kind": "credit-union",
      "city": "Vienna",
      "state": "VA",
      "status": "likely",
      "label": "Likely works via Plaid",
      "url": "https://plugcat.com/credit-union/navy-federal-credit-union/",
      "api_url": "https://plugcat.com/api/v1/credit-union/navy-federal-credit-union",
      "markdown_url": "https://plugcat.com/md/credit-union/navy-federal-credit-union.md"
    }
  ]
}

Parameters: q (required, 2+ characters; a city can follow the name), kind (bank, credit-union or brokerage), state (two-letter code) and limit (1 to 25, default 10).

One institution

Take the page path and put /api/v1 in front, without the trailing slash:

curl https://plugcat.com/api/v1/bank/jpmorgan-chase-bank

The response has a one-line summary, the Plaid match (plaid.status, plaid.names to search for in the app), and apps: each app’s status (likely, possible, unknown or not-supported) with the reason.

Apps

curl https://plugcat.com/api/v1/apps

Markdown pages

Every bank, credit union and brokerage page has a markdown version, linked from the page with <link rel="alternate" type="text/markdown">:

curl https://plugcat.com/md/bank/jpmorgan-chase-bank.md

Without JavaScript

Search also works as a plain page: /search/?q=chase. Every page is server-rendered, the full list is in the sitemap, and llms.txt describes the site.
